Our Mission & History

Our History

Middlebury was without an emergency medical response service until 1970, when a group of passionate community members, led by George "Wedge" Murdoch, took action. With training and support from local physicians and the Red Cross, as well as a donated hearse converted to an ambulance, the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association (MVAA) was established.

While our name may have evolved, Middlebury Regional EMS still shares the same devotion to our community as the MVAA of old. We pride ourselves on being one of the most progressive EMS agencies in the region and will continue to provide expert medical, rescue, and patient transfer services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Middlebury Regional EMS strives to be be a community-focused emergency response agency by offering high-quality prehospital care, comprehensive emergency communications services, robust heavy rescue assistance and providing healthcare education to the citizens that we serve.

By integrating these services into one agency, we aim to establish ourselves as a cornerstone of emergency response in our service area, fostering a safer and more informed community.

We’re here for you.
